Happy 66th Indepence Day Everyone!
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action--- Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
– Rabindranath Tagore
This Independence Day we got up really early in the morning, had a quick bath and dressed in white, for white best reflected how we felt at peace in our hearts; then we rushed to the Red Fort. Driven by a desire to live the proud moment of our national Tricolour being hoisted live, but alas, by the time we reached picking few friends on the way the celebration was all over. Our early morning seems was not early enough but nonetheless the sight of Tricolour fluttering across the skyline of an overcast sky was like the dawn of a new life, new hopes, new dreams, new achievements …
It was the most beautiful day and the sun hadn’t really come up by the time our clique finally reached its haven. The destination was one of our city’s most beautiful monuments, The Humayun’s Tomb. The Turkish style of Islamic architecture that screams loud through its arches and beams, its huge marble dome and small minarets is a sight to behold. A photography enthusiast’s paradise that it has evolved into did call for an amateur like me to develop my skills and try some shots. While the central chambers were closed for maintenance and perhaps security reasons, I did however click a lot of novice shots of its red stone colossal exterior. The mighty sun and a few fanatical clouds kept playing their tricks and making it a challenge to deal with a sky that kept changing from overcast to sunny within moments.
